This weekend we had an adventure in the jungle! That's right, the jungle... in our backyard! When we first looked at our house we noticed that there was a tall privacy fence in the backyard, for some reason we didn't investigate the area behind the fence. Hum, bad idea! And though the yard was mowed before we moved in, we suppose that the workers couldn't see behind the fence, that it needed to be trimmed too! So when we finally made our way back there we realized that we had our very own jungle to explore! With not having many garden tools we have been collecting items at the store for the past few weeks and we finally went for an adventure in the jungle! With our new gloves, scythe, rake, clippers and a few tools we already owned, we were ready to conquer and tame our jungle. How did our adventure go, you ask???... Well, you guessed it, the spiders and bugs live outside and plants can be scary sometimes too! Hehe, we didn't fare too bad, though we had one particular weed that was rather mean and kept sticking us with it's pokey gumballs, we kept having to help each other take them off! Overall, our adventure was fun and our project was a success! Sarah felt a bit uneasy towards the end of the adventure, as she was finishing up with some raking while Edmund was using the mower, she heard a little sound that she didn't like. It sounded like a mouse. And then she saw it.... a little brown mole! And the fight instinct kicked in and she was on the hunt, quite literally uncontrollable! In the end, Sarah's rake won, she felt upset that she had taken the life from the little creature but she was glad that she had caught one of the pests that is leaving the yard in a terrible way of holes and hills. On a connected note, we had a plumber come take a look at our drains as they had been backing up. Thankfully we had just the day before taken care of the jungle, if we had not done so the plumber would have put on his bill, "extra charge for safari trip to septic tank!" Haha, he probably would not have done that but it sure did make it easier for him to do his job, so our timing to clean out our jungle was impeccable! Life continues to settle in a bit for us around here, we still don't have much furniture but we are excited to fill our home with beautiful things and beautiful memories of love, family and friendship! However, we ultimately seek to store up treasures in heaven, for we know that this life is but a vapor and "in the eternal perspective, the finer things of this life, just don't matter!" (From the movie, "The RM")

The adventures in yard-work began with trimming our trees, the branches were becoming a bit unruly!

Edmund got to use his favorite truck
to take the trimmings away!

That is so cool! It looks like you have the makings of a secret garden! I wonder what the purpose of the picket fence was? What are the concrete structures along the treeline?
ReplyDeleteEdmund and I were trying to figure out the purpose of the fence as well but the only thing we came up with was that they were trying to hide the septic tank parts which is what the concrete structures are that lie along the treeline. We have missed the garden season this year but we hope to have a garden back there in the spring =)
