Dover and More!

The Ward's go for a winter time adventure!

Greetings family and friends! Edmund and I went on yet another adventure last weekend! We went to Dover and then explored the surrounding region! We had a good time learning more about the history of England and also seeing God's handiwork at the White Cliffs of Dover!

A cool tunnel through a hill...

There is light at the end of the tunnel!

Our first day of exploration actually took us a bit out of the way... To Battle Abbey where the Battle of Hastings took place in 1066, where William the Conqueror defeated the English!!!

The visitor center had a very informative video to watch!

And then we got started on our audio tour around the fields where the battle took place!

The ruins of the abbey are in the background...

William the Conqueror was ordered by the Pope to build the abbey in penance for the bloodshed caused from the fierce battle. 

 It was rainy, muddy, windy and cold but we survived!

 This is the gate to the Abbey!

On the way back to our room for the weekend we we able to pull off and get some great views of the sunset on the cliffs of Dover!

They ran off... Sarah was hoping for a little pet but nope, she must have been too loud, for the closer she got the more hurried their departure!

The next day we went on a short hike at another location of the cliffs... This time Dover castle is in the far distance!

It was very muddy! 

A great time for Sarah to test out her new hiking boots!

 And then.... We packed his angry eyes just in case... seeing he's a king in all, we thought he might need them!

 There is a little chapel in the background that actually is older than the castle itself!

Ahh, now there's a table set for a king! 

 Sarah says... Don't judge y'all, if you had been there too you probably would have at least thought about covering your face! And I've decided to prioritize being warm over being fashionable. But yes, I recognize it looks pretty silly!

Our third and final day in the area... We checked out of our room and decided to make one more stop to view the cliffs!

See how small those little cliffs are! 

 It's hardly any work at all to carry them on my shoulder!
