Cambridge

We also made it out to Cambridge this past week and we had quite the adventure!

First off, Edmund was so excited to see an Aston Martin he had to go take a picture with it!

We decided to use a "park and ride" bus, so we parked on the outskirts of Cambridge and rode the bus into town. In the city, parking is limited and fairly expensive, but mostly it's not easy finding a parking spot for our big truck! So this is us on the top deck of the big red bus!

Once we got into the city we were able to get into the Great St. Marys Chapel, it was very beautiful, but it's most exciting feature was the tower.....

Watch your head!...

 The climb up the some 140 very narrow and winding steps was well worth it for the beautiful view!

The market place below was thriving, it was very busy and loud! We could even hear a street singer and the crowd that was listening and cheering her on!

Our famous selfie pictures... These ones have the King's College Chapel in the background!

We decided to go punting on the Cam... Don't know what that means? Neither did we, until Monday! Wikipedia describes it this way: "A punt is a flat-bottomed boat with a square-cut bow, designed for use in small rivers or other shallow water. Punting refers to boating in a punt. The punter generally propels the punt by pushing against the river bed with a pole. A punt should not be confused with a gondola, which is propelled by an oar rather than a pole. Notice how bright and sunny it is? Just wait....

CHEESE!Smile for the camera!

View of the King's college Chapel from the river Cam... Notice the dark clouds approaching?

Still seems sunny this way...

"I wanna know, have you evah' seen rain, coming down on sunny day?!?"

So, there is no further photographic proof of the punting tour as those dark clouds decided to let loose and the camera got put away... Thankfully, they had umbrellas for us to use and some extra blankets to cover up with as well. Unfortunately, this wasn't the typical English rain, as our guide said, it was more like a tropical downpour! He was soaked from head to toe and well we weren't too bad. Edmund had one unfortunate shoe that was soaked but the other was spared and Sarah was in an unfortunate seat so her bottom wasn't very dry at the end of the tour, but overall, we could have gotten soaked and we did get spared so we were very grateful and it was a fun adventure.

Afterward, we decided to warm up with some coffee and crepes, yum!

Sarah's amazing vanilla latte, notice the difference in size between Sarah's mug and...

...Edmund's mug

He ordered a macchiato... a little different than we are used to from Starbucks! It was in a tiny little mug!

The crepes were amazing though!

Our day in Cambridge went by rather quickly but it was an exciting day and one that we are glad to be able to share with you all here on our blog!

This morning I (Sarah) was reminded of Psalm 103, and I found it very encouraging and hope you do to!

Psalm 103

Of David.

1
Praise the Lord, my soul;
    all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
2
Praise the Lord, my soul,
    and forget not all his benefits—
3
who forgives all your sins
    and heals all your diseases,
4
who redeems your life from the pit
    and crowns you with love and compassion,
5
who satisfies your desires with good things
    so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
6
The Lord works righteousness
    and justice for all the oppressed.
7
He made known his ways to Moses,
    his deeds to the people of Israel:
8
The Lord is compassionate and gracious,
    slow to anger, abounding in love.
9
He will not always accuse,
    nor will he harbor his anger forever;
10
he does not treat us as our sins deserve
    or repay us according to our iniquities.
11
For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
    so great is his love for those who fear him;
12
as far as the east is from the west,
    so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
13
As a father has compassion on his children,
    so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;
14
for he knows how we are formed,
    he remembers that we are dust.
15
The life of mortals is like grass,
    they flourish like a flower of the field;
16
the wind blows over it and it is gone,
    and its place remembers it no more.
17
But from everlasting to everlasting
    the Lord’s love is with those who fear him,
    and his righteousness with their children’s children—
18
with those who keep his covenant
    and remember to obey his precepts.
19
The Lord has established his throne in heaven,
    and his kingdom rules over all.
20
Praise the Lord, you his angels,
    you mighty ones who do his bidding,
    who obey his word.
21
Praise the Lord, all his heavenly hosts,
    you his servants who do his will.
22
Praise the Lord, all his works
    everywhere in his dominion.
Praise the Lord, my soul.

  1. Good morning, my beloved ones! I love these pictures! (I know I keep saying that.) Is that the Cam bridge? Remember Burt in Mary Poppins had one sidewalk chalk drawing of punting on the Thames?

    It is such a blessing to see you both enjoying the great blessings of the Lord! I re-read Psalm 103 this morning. What a beautiful reminder of the grace and mercy of our Great God! Hold these beautiful times together as a standing stone in your hearts. Let them serve as a reminder of the goodness of the Lord, that he hears and answers prayer.

    I love you so much!

    1. There were lots of bridges and one of them in the photos could the Cam bridge but I don't remember... Once it started raining it was hard to hear our guide as he told us about things that we could, kind of see through the rain! I do remember the wooden bridge is called the Mathematical bridge but it is not the original but actually a second replica that was built in the early 1900's, it is in one of the above photos I believe. And that is funny about Mary Poppins we will have to watch that one again sometime! <3
