This past weekend, we decided to go to BRUGGE!
We had a nice time exploring the famous city in the country of Belgium!
It was a long trip to get there... Over 7 hours of driving/ferry riding each way, so over 14 hours of travel altogether! Thankfully, we were riding on a bus so we could get some sleep as we traveled!
Sarah doesn't usually sleep well in the car, she's too excited about looking out the window! We were both able to enjoy viewing the French and Belgian countrysides as we drove to Brugge.
When we finally arrived to Brugge, we enjoyed a boat tour of the city... Our tour guide spoke three different languages to accommodate all the languages of the passengers!
The weather was a bit dreary looking but overall it was a beautiful day in the upper 60's and not too much breeze.
We didn't know that Belgians were renowned for their fries but they are! And we learned all about the french frying methods at the "Friet Museum!"
We feel the Belgian fries are certainly some of the best fries that we have ever tasted!
We learned the secret to amazing Belgian fries... They cook their fries twice. Once in a lower temp. and then after a resting period they place the fries into a high temp. and cook a second time. This gives the fries a delicious soft inside but crunchy on the outside which is what makes a fry perfect!
Brugge was a very busy city! There were lots of people and bikes and horse drawn carriages... Which at first thought seem romantic but they give a certain smell to a small, overcrowded city... Not so romantic after all!
The Belfry Clock Tower! We were able to take all 366 steps to the top level of the clock tower for the beautiful panoramic view of the city!
The view was worth every step but we were glad to get back on level ground!
We had a great time exploring God's creation and man's ingenuity in the great country of Belgium!
We also had great time enjoying the food of Belgium! We are so thankful to the Lord for the creativity in His work of food and giving us the ability to taste so many yummy and delicious flavors!
Beef stew on Belgian fries... AMAZING!
And of course, sweetness!
Belgian waffles
and
Chocolate
(oh, and cappuccinos and lattes!!!)!
Confession: We actually had waffles three separate times that day... We found the best whipped cream, fruit topping and waffles the city had to offer... Of course, they were all at separate locations but each treat had something special and unique about it.
Not pictured is the chocolate that we purchased... We are savoring each piece that we brought home with us!
We were quite blessed with the opportunity to travel and experience the city of Brugge, and in that we consider the sweetness of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! He gives us the "sweetness of freedom!" Which reminds us of the song by the band Citizens, called the Sweetness of Freedom. Which states, "Liberated by the blood of Jesus, I've found life in the sweetness of freedom!" Let us not forget the sacrifice of the spotless lamb, Jesus Christ, that gives us the "sweetness of freedom!"
Listen to the song, Sweetness of Freedom here:
It looks like you had a wonderful time! The french fries look yummy! (I love french fries.) I especially liked the photo of the two of you at the top. I am saving that one! You both look happy! And yes, freedom is sweet - freedom from the slavery of sin so that we are free to serve, love and worship the Son who sets us free! xo
